The koru is the Māori name given to the new unfurling fern frond and symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace. The symbolism of the koru as stated above resonates with the resettlement hopes of our communities from refugee backgrounds.
The Refugee Health Service is part of the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS). The Service covers the greater Auckland region. Public Health plays a major role in supporting and strengthening healthy communities including refugees and new migrants.
The Refugee Health Service provides information, education, communicable diseases control, health prevention and health promotion. The Refugee Health Service works in partnership with many health providers and communities to provide culturally appropriate and acceptable care.
